If your depression causes muscle tension or general body aches and pain, then an essential oil massage may help. Add 1-2 drops of essential oil into a carrier oil (like coconut or jojoba) and massage into sore muscles. Massages can also be an extremely relaxing outlet and can leaving you feeling like a different person after a relaxing massage. To maximize the relaxation and stress reduction benefits of an essential oil massage, diffuse a calming essential oil blend and play soothing music such as nature sounds.
Aromatherapy for Depression and Mood Swings
Aromatherapy for depression can give an immediate boost in mood and increase energy. Any of the above mentioned essential oils can be added to a diffuser. When using a diffuser, or practicing aromatherapy, plan to do so for at least 15 minutes, and perform a relaxing activity, such as watching one of your favourite shows or reading a magazine or book.
